Plot Synopsis:
The story takes place within a 24-hour period
from dawn to dawn in ancient Baghdad, where a quick-witted
public poet assumes the identity of Hajj, the beggar. His
day is absolutely filled with adventure and by the time
it has ended, he has seen his daughter Marsinah wedded to
the handsome Caliph, he has managed to drown the scheming
Wazir, he has been appointed Emir of Baghdad and gone off
into the desert with the Wazir's luscious wife, Lalume.
The music includes "Stranger in Paradise",
"And This is My Beloved", "Rhymes Have I"
and "Baubles, Bangles and Beads".
