Diablo Light Opera Company's Starstruck program is
proud to present the original musical comedy, The Adventures
of Sheer Luck Holmes, book, music and lyrics by Barrett
Lindsay-Steiner, for six performances in May.
The Adventures of Sheer Luck Holmes is a wacky twist on the
Sherlock Holmes detective stories. Laugh at the bumbling antics
of Sheer Luck as he (somehow, unbelievably) manages to unravel
every clue. Our musical tale starts at his digs on Baker Street
with his loyal friend (and therapist) Doctor Watson, and winds
through the streets of London to the hideout of a mysterious
villain. Along the way Holmes assists a famous opera singer
and encounters Black Widow, a fiend almost as nefarious as
their mystery man. As the plot thickens, Holmes and Watson
continue their man-hunt to the Royal Opera House and end up
in a decrepit abandoned bakery where Holmes meets his equal,
his arch-rival, Nemesis. With catchy songs and snappy,
pun-filled dialogue, the show is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
And remember...it isn't over until the Fat Lady sings!
The current Starstruck production features 48 talented performers
between the ages of 8 and 15. As with previous shows,
most roles in The Adventures in Sheer Luck Holmes are double
cast to enable a maximum number of students to fill the spotlight.
The Starstruck program introduces children 8 through 15 to
the magic of musical theater. No auditions are required
to participate in the program, and students of all experience
levels are encouraged to register. The group meets once
a week, Saturday mornings from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, at the
DLOC Firehouse in Pleasant Hill. Director Barrett Lindsay-Steiner,
Director Cynthia Myers and professional staff guide the students
in character development, vocal techniques, dance-choreography,
audition techniques, and other theater skills, as well as
team building and leadership training. There are
two sessions annually, one beginning in September/October
with performances in January, and a spring session beginning
in February ending with performances in May. All
performances are in the Knight Stage Three Theatre at the
Regional Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. Call 925-519-0346
for information and to be added to the mailing list for the
fall program.
