WITHOUT A DOUBT, Rhoda Klitsner has her hands
full. She's directing Diablo Light Opera Company's "Me and
My Girl," and is already holding rehearsals for the show opening
Jan. 28 at the Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts.
But that's not all. She also has the challenge of directing
DLOC's "Nostalgia Concert," a celebration of the company's
40th anniversary, which will have two performances Nov. 21
at 2:30 and 6:30 p.m at the Regional Center. Refreshments
will be served between the two shows so that patrons have
a chance to see old and new friends.
"My concept for this show is to have a reunion of our present
and past performers and supporting members to celebrate our
40 years and their contributions to our phenomenal success.
I have picked numbers from our history, based on using those
who originally played the roles, and I've tried not to exclude
anyone arbitrarily," says Klitsner, who has directed and/or
choreographed 42 of the company's 79 productions.
"I've also tried to include some of our landmark productions,
such as the Gilbert and Sullivan of our original roots; 'The
Sound of Music,' which opened the old Civic Arts Theatre;
'Fiddler on the Roof,' which made it possible for us to buy
the Firehouse; 'Annie', which paid off half the Firehouse;
'La Cage aux Folles' and 'Die Fledermaus,' because they were
our first productions in the Regional Center. I also want
to show our versatility by doing the gamut from G&S to
tap-dance shows, operettas, Sondheim, Lloyd Webber and, of
course, something from the youngsters in our Stars 2000."
And that's only the beginning. Another treat in the program
will be a preview of "Me and My Girl," which was first produced
in 1991. For tickets, which are selling fast, at $20 for DLOC
members and $30 general, call 925-943-SHOW.
