The Diablo Theatre Company Performing Arts Academy's STARS Teens program offers young adults ages 13 to 20 the opportunity to explore dramatic arts through theatrical performances and professionally taught classes and workshops. Our program caters to all levels of experience, from the novice performer who has just discovered a love for theatre to those who want to build on their theatrical training. Young adults learn theatrical arts skills while building self-esteem and confidence, and making new friends.

STARS Teens Summer Camp Theatre Program

At “The Firehouse”
1948 Oak Park Blvd., Pleasant Hill

Taught by Bay Area professionals, our fun-filled, high-energy Triple Threat musical theatre training camp will help develop well-rounded performers in the three disciplines of acting, dancing, and singing.

Triple Threat (Ages 13-20)

June 21 - July 1
Monday - Thursday
9:00 am - 12:30 pm
Tuition: $250

These classes complement stage experience with performance strengthening skills.* Campers are encouraged to audition for the STARS 2000 production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. (Camp participation does not guarantee a role in this STARS 2000 production.)

* The Triple Threat Camp will not conduct a performance at the conclusion of camp.


STARS Teens Spring Theatre Programs

Dance for the Stage (Ages 13-19)
February 2 – May 11 (14 classes)

Tuesdays 4:45-6:00 pm
Tuition: $220 (a limited number of scholarships are available)
Instructor:   Lia Metz

Do you want to be a triple threat but lack the polished dance skills? Then this class if for you. Prepare for auditions and rehearsals by working on your jazz technique. Each class includes a musical theatre history lesson, jazz warm-up, and a new combination every three weeks. You will be a better musical theatre dancer at the end of these classes! Guaranteed!

Lia Metz has recently been "behind the table," stage managing, directing, and choreographing with companies such as Berkeley Repertory Theatre, the Sierra Repertory Theatre, Active Arts Theatre, Theatre Rhinoceros, New Conservatory Theatre Center.  A 2002 graduate of the Pacific Conservatory for the Performing Arts (PCPA), Lia is also a two-time Aubrey Award winner for Best Choreography of a Musical, Lia has professional acting credits from all over California and served on the  board of directors at Scripps Ranch Theatre, and taught dance at Applauz Theatre. Vocal Technique for Musical Theatre (Ages 13-19)

February 3 – May 12 (14 classes)

Wednesdays   4:15-5:45pm
Tuition:  $250 (a limited number of scholarships are available)
Instructor:  Tielle Baker

Do you love to sing but continue to be overlooked for solos and leading roles? Develop vocal skills that will help you become a leading lady or man. You will learn breathing technique, placement, and characterization. You will sing each week and work on material for auditions or upcoming performances. Learn from watching other students in this vocal master-class. Class is ideal for all levels and will teach valuable skills even if you study privately.

Tielle Baker has been singing and dancing on stage for the past 22 years, performing in over 50 musical productions with Bay Area theatre companies. Additionally, she has hit high notes in The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and the International Opera Festivals in Italy and Germany. When not on stage she works with young performers as a private vocal instructor. In 2009 she founded the Music Box Theatre Co. in Walnut Creek. She finds teaching rewarding and enjoys helping others find their own voice. She graduated from the University of the Pacific with a Degree in Vocal Performance.
